DEPARTMENTAL RECOMMENDATION:

The Department of Health and Social Services recommends that the Board of Supervisors adopt and present a resolution recognizing November 2025 as National Care at Home Month acknowledging In-Home Supportive Services Home Care Workers in Solano County.

SUMMARY:

Each November, the Department of Health and Social Services (H&SS) joins the National Alliance for Care at Home to observe National Care at Home Month. This offers a time to recognize and honor caregivers across the county, raise awareness of caregiver issues, increase support for caregiving, and celebrate the efforts of millions of Americans who provide this essential service.

FINANCIAL IMPACT:

The costs associated with preparing the agenda item are nominal and absorbed by the Department's FY2025/26 Working Budget. The costs associated with preparing and purchasing resolution materials are included in the Board's FY2025/26 Working Budget. There is no additional impact on the County General Fund.

DISCUSSION:

National Care at Home Month celebrates various types of in-home care, including home health care, hospice care, palliative care, Medicaid Home and Community Based Services, and other types of home care for seniors or those living with serious disability or acute illness. Home caregivers provide access to high-quality, person-centered healthcare allowing seniors and others to remain in whatever setting where they call home. In addition, the Caregiver Action Network observes National Family Caregivers Month in the month of November, which recognizes the unique role of caregivers who provide care to family members.
