DEPARTMENTAL RECOMMENDATION:

Supervisor Monica Brown requests that the Board adopt and present a resolution recognizing and honoring the Sikh American community celebration of Vaisakhi.

SUMMARY/DISCUSSION:

The Sikh American community has over 25 million followers throughout the world, with a large group of Sikh’s residing in Solano County and a Sikh Gurdwara located in Fairfield.

We would like to recognize and honor the Sikh American celebration of Vaisakhi, a historical and religious festival celebrated on April 14. The celebration marks the founding of the Sikh community in the 15th century.

FINANCIAL IMPACT:

There is no cost to the County with regard to the adoption of this resolution.

ALTERNATIVES:

The Board could choose not to adopt this resolution; however, this is not recommended as it is an opportunity to recognize the Sikh American community in Solano County.
