DEPARTMENTAL RECOMMENDATION:

The County Administrator's Office recommends the Board of Supervisors, sitting as the Board of Directors for the Montezuma Fire Protection District,:

1) Accept a financial audit of the Montezuma Fire Protection District for FY2021/22 and FY2022/23; and

2) Authorize the Chair to sign the management representation letter of audit acceptance.

SUMMARY/DISCUSSION:

The Board of Supervisors, in its capacity as the Board of Directors for the Montezuma Fire Protection District, is being asked to accept a financial audit report for FY2021/22 and FY2022/23 financial statements, conducted by Melinda Ingram, CPA. The full audit report can be found in Attachment A. Attachment B provides a letter of acceptance of these financial audit reports, which is required for filing with the State, with the Local Agency Formation Commission, and with the County's Auditor Controllers Office.

In accordance with Government Code ?26909, special districts including fire districts are required to conduct biennial audits as determined by their Board of Directors. For FY2023/24 and FY2024/25, the District will complete an audit and return in late fall to the Board of Directors for acceptance.

FINANCIAL IMPACT:

The acceptance of the audit report has no financial impact. The costs associated with preparing the agenda item are nominal and absorbed by the department's FY2024/25 Working Budget. The Montezuma Fire Protection District, while dependent, maintains its own budget and revenue sources, resulting in no General Fund impact.
