DEPARTMENTAL RECOMMENDATION:

The Department of Health and Social Services recommends that the Board of Supervisors adopt and present a resolution recognizing the week of August 3-9, 2025 as National Health Center Week in Solano County.

SUMMARY/DISCUSSION:

The National Association of Community Health Centers has designated the week of August 3-9, 2025 as National Health Center Week to celebrate community health centers and their contributions to healthcare accessibility and affordability. Community health centers represent the nation's largest primary care network, serving 32.5 million patients nationwide, according to the National Association of Community Health Centers (NACHC). The 2025 theme is "Celebrating 60 Years of Progress" and celebrates 60 years of improving our nation's health.

The journey of community health centers began in 1965 thanks to pioneering doctors and concerned citizens who recognized the critical need for affordable primary care in underserved communities. The first community health centers were originally called neighborhood health centers and targeted local health needs. Today, community health centers provide comprehensive primary and preventative healthcare services to underserved populations across the nation, improving lives and ensuring all individuals, regardless of their ability to pay, have access to quality healthcare.
