DEPARTMENTAL RECOMMENDATION:

The Department of Resource Management recommends that the Board of Supervisors adopt and present a resolution and plaque of appreciation honoring Colby La Place, Senior Hazardous Materials Specialist, upon his retirement from the Department of Resource Management, Environmental Health Division with over 21 years of dedicated public service to Solano County.

SUMMARY/DISCUSSION:

Colby La Place began his career with Solano County's Resource Management Department in the Environmental Health Division as a Senior Hazardous Materials Specialist on September 13, 2004, and has served the citizens of Solano County with grace, professionalism and an overall commitment to excellence.

Prior to coming to Solano County, Colby worked for Stauffer Chemical for 15 years, including stints in Mobile, Alabama; Belgium; and Richmond, California as Plant Manager. He then worked 15 years at Jones Hamilton in Newark, California as Director of Operations. He is also a former President of the Ohio Chemistry Council and the Chemical Industry Council of California.

While Colby has worked in all the hazardous materials programs within the County's Environmental Health Division, his experience made him the ideal lead inspector for the Valero Refinery in Benicia. Colby's work ethic, attention to detail, and ability to communicate and foster good working relationships helped Valero Refinery become one of the safest refineries in the State (and nation).
