DEPARTMENTAL RECOMMENDATION:
Supervisor Mashburn requests that the Board of Supervisors authorize the County's contribution of $2,750 from the General Fund contribution allocated to District 5 to benefit the Solano County Fair Association's youth livestock awards program.
SUMMARY/DISCUSSION:
The Solano County Fair Association (SCFA) was established in 1946 to produce the annual Solano County Fair and manage the year-round operations of the Solano County Fairgrounds & Event Center. Since then, the SCFA has been providing educational, cultural, artistic, commercial, and recreational programs to the residents of Solano County for more than 75 years. This year's fair promises "Fun for the Whole Herd" and is happening Thursday, June 12 through Sunday, June 15, 2025, at the Vallejo Fairgrounds. Among the wonderful variety of activities available in this year's schedule is the Junior Livestock program.
The Fair's Junior Livestock program offers area youth the opportunity for hands-on learning during the many months of dedicated work with their chosen animal. The fair is the culmination of that work as the youth involved exhibit the livestock they have been raising. The Youth Awards program with its coveted buckles, banners, and gilts, is a wonderful way to recognize and reward the fair's youth exhibitors for their commitment to not only their livestock project, but also to the agricultural heritage of Solano County.
This donation will fund all the youth livestock awards at this year's Solano County Fair.
