DEPARTMENTAL RECOMMENDATION:

 

Supervisor Vasquez requests that the Board of Supervisors adopt resolutions honoring Jonathan White, Joshua White, and Joshua Durkin of Boy Scout Troop 488 in Vacaville, California on achieving the Eagle Scout Award.

 

SUMMARY/DISCUSSION:

 

Boy Scouts of America is one of the largest youth organizations in the United States.  The rank of Eagle Scout is the highest a young man can obtain in the Boy Scouts of America.  The basic Eagle Scout requirements are:

 

                     An Eagle Scout must constantly participate in and contribute to his unit and the Boy Scouts of America.

 

                     An Eagle Scout must serve as a Life Scout for at least six months while completing the Eagle rank requirements; which include completion of at least 21 merit badges, of which 12 are required merit badges.

 

                     While a Life Scout, he must serve actively in a leadership position for a minimum of six months.

 

                     An Eagle Scout must plan, develop and carry out a service project useful to his school, community or religious institution.  He must demonstrate his willingness to live up to the ideals of the scout law, oath, motto and slogan.
