DEPARTMENTAL RECOMMENDATION:

Supervisor Brown requests that the Board adopt and present a resolution recognizing May 14, 2025, as “Day of the Teacher” in Solano County.

SUMMARY:

On May 14, 2025, the “Day of the Teacher” is recognized throughout the state of California. California’s Day of the Teacher is recognized every second Wednesday in May and arose out of legislation co-sponsored by the California Teachers Association and the Association of Mexican American Educators in 1982. This year’s theme, California Educators: At the Heart of Communities, Powering Our Future, encapsulates the important position educators maintain in our society by providing an inclusive and strong learning environment. By nature, teachers are proven leaders in bringing inventive practices and creativity into their classrooms every day. Solano County has more than 2,900 teachers and Solano County owes much of its success to its teachers in public schools, colleges and universities that produce the scholars, thinkers, and educated workforce.

FINANCIAL IMPACT:

The costs associated with preparing the agenda item are nominal and absorbed by District 2’s FY2024/25 Working Budget. The costs associated with the preparation and purchase of the resolution materials are nominal and included in the Board’s FY2024/25 Working Budget.

ALTERNATIVES:

The Board could choose not to adopt the resolution, but that is not recommended as this is an opportunity to recognize teachers in Solano County.

OTHER AGENCY INVOLVEMENT:

None.
