DEPARTMENTAL RECOMMENDATION:

The Sheriff recommends that the Board of Supervisors adopt and present a resolution and plaque of appreciation honoring Rex Moffett, Correctional Officer, upon his retirement from the Sheriff's Office with over 30 years of dedicated service to Solano County.

SUMMARY/DISCUSSION:

Rex Moffett began his career with the Solano County Sheriff's Office as a Correctional Officer (Entry) on June 19, 1995 and was promoted to Correctional Officer on June 30, 1996. Officer Moffett worked in numerous positions within the Custody Division, including Level Two and Four Modules at the Justice Center Detention Facility, Minimum Security, Maximum Security, Relief Officer, Rover and with the Inmate Work Crew. Officer Moffett was a valued member of the Sheriff's Office Honor Guard and the Custody Facility Search Team (FST), where he also served as Team Equipment Officer.

Officer Moffett was commended in 1999 for his proactive approach to safety, including daily random shakedowns and inspections that significantly reduced contraband and inmate violence in our jails. In 2009 he was commended for his meticulous maintenance of FST equipment, creation of operational jail maps, and support in presenting to the Grand Jury. In January 2023, Officer Moffett received a Sheriff's Certificate of Commendation for his role in an incident which occurred in March 2022 involving two inmates who became incapacitated in their cell and required Narcan.
