DEPARTMENTAL RECOMMENDATION:
Supervisor Vasquez requests the Board adopt a resolution recognizing John H. Aldridge for his tenure as Commander of the American Legion Department of California and his 20 years of service to our nation in the United States Air Force.
SUMMARY/DISCUSSION:
John H. Aldridge was elected commander of the American Legion Department of California during the organization's annual convention, June 23-25, 2023. Chartered by Congress in 1919, the American Legion is the nation's largest veterans service organization, and its Department of California is dedicated to serving the approximately two million veterans living in communities across the Golden State.
Mr. Aldridge enlisted in the United States Air Force on October 31, 1974. In 1987, while stationed at Travis Air Force Base, he joined the American Legion, Post 182 in Suisun City. Mr. Aldridge is a lifetime member of the American Legion, serving with distinction in various roles, including Commander and Adjutant for Post 182, Commander and Chaplain for the "Mighty" Fifth District, and Department Chaplain for four terms. He later transferred his Legion membership to Yountville Veterans Home Post 306 to support members there with Legion programs and projects.
FINANCIAL IMPACT:
The costs associated with preparing the agenda item are nominal and absorbed by the department's FY2023/24 Working Budget. The costs associated with preparation and purchase of the resolution materials are included in the Board's FY2023/24 Working Budget.
