DEPARTMENTAL RECOMMENDATION:
Supervisor Vasquez requests the Board adopt and present a resolution recognizing November 10, 2025 as the 250th birthday of the United States Marine Corps.
SUMMARY/DISCUSSION:
On November 10, 1775, the Second Continental Congress meeting in Philadelphia passed a resolution stating that "two Battalions of Marines be raised" for service as landing forces with the fleet. This resolution established the Continental Marines and marked the birth date of the United States Marine Corps.
Since its inception, members of the United States Marine Corps have served with the utmost courage and professionalism in conflicts from the Revolutionary War to the Vietnam War, Global War on Terror and numerous battles, peacekeeping missions and humanitarian efforts throughout its long and storied history.
For 250 years the United States Marine Corps has offered countless possibilities and opportunities for service to our nation. From the Revolutionary War to the present day, Americans have served selflessly, sacrificing their freedom - and sometimes their lives - in defense of the nation. Their courage, loyalty and dedication have inspired generations, forging a proud tradition of service.
FINANCIAL IMPACT:
The costs associated with preparing the agenda item are nominal and absorbed by the District 4 FY2025/26 Working Budget. The costs associated with preparation and purchase of the resolution materials are included in the Board's FY2025/26 Working Budget.
ALTERNATIVES:
The Board could choose not to adopt this resolution, however, that is not recommended as this is an opportunity to recognize and honor the role that the United States Marine Corps has played in America's history and its impact acro...
