DEPARTMENTAL RECOMMENDATION:
Supervisor James recommends that the Solano County Board of Supervisors adopt and present a resolution recognizing June 2026 as Gun Violence Awareness Month.
SUMMARY/DISCUSSION:
Gun violence continues to devastate communities across the nation, claiming the lives of family members, friends, neighbors, and loved ones. In Solano County, residents remain united in the effort to end gun violence and build safer communities for all. Meaningful progress requires collective action to address the many factors contributing to this crisis, including historical systemic inequities, mental health challenges, and other underlying conditions that can fuel violence.
By proclaiming June 2026 as Gun Violence Awareness Month and joining this national movement, Solano County reaffirms its commitment to reducing gun-related deaths and injuries, supporting survivors and advocates, and advancing community-centered solutions that promote safety, healing, and prevention.
FINANCIAL IMPACT:
The costs associated with preparing the agenda item are nominal and absorbed by the department’s FY2025/26 Working Budget.
