DEPARTMENTAL RECOMMENDATION:

Supervisor Brown requests that the Board of Supervisors authorize the County’s contribution of $5,000 from the General Fund contribution allocated to District 2 to benefit the following organizations, including Food is Free Solano ($3,000), California Maritime Academy Foundation ($1,000), and End 68 Hours of Hunger ($1,000).

SUMMARY/DISCUSSION:

District 2 has identified the following non-profit organizations for which to contribute its non-County contribution allocation, including:

Food is Free Solano ($3,000)
Food is Free Solano, doing business as Food is Free Bay Area, is a volunteer-run food resource supported by the local community. The contribution will support its food distribution efforts at the Solano County Fairgrounds in Vallejo.

California Maritime Academy Foundation ($1,000)
The California Maritime Academy Foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that supports the mission, cadets, and faculty of Cal Poly Maritime Academy. The contribution will be directed to the university’s food pantry to help students experiencing food insecurity.

End 68 Hours of Hunger ($1,000)
End 68 Hours of Hunger works to address the gap in food access that some children face between school lunch on Friday and school breakfast on Monday. The contribution will support the organization’s Fairfield/Vacaville chapter in serving children in those communities.
