DEPARTMENTAL RECOMMENDATION:

Accept a grant award from the Department of Homeland, Security Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) totaling $321,061 to the Suisun Fire Protection District for an Assistance to Firefighters grant award for the purchase of self-contained breathing apparatus.

SUMMARY/DISCUSSION:

The Board of Directors for the Suisun Fire Protection District (District) is asked to accept a grant from the Department of Homeland Security Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) for an Assistance to Firefighters grant award totaling $321,061 for the purchase of self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA). SCBA work by providing the user with a clean air supply, separate from the surrounding air, which may be contaminated by smoke, toxic gases or other harmful substances.

The grant was requested for apparatus and supporting supplies and the award amount will allow the District to purchase approximately 32 sets of SCBA, 45 masks, 64 air tanks and supporting chargers and batteries. In addition, there may be potential for additional supporting purchases due to potential fall pricing opportunities. The District applied for the grant in order to remain compliant with standards for maintaining its safety equipment. This purchase works toward standardization of personal protective equipment (PPE) among the three districts.

FINANCIAL IMPACT:

The Suisun Fire Protection District anticipated the expenditure and has included this in their FY2025/26 budget. The costs associated with preparing the agenda item are nominal and absorbed by the Department's FY2025/26 Working Budget.
