DEPARTMENTAL RECOMMENDATION:
It is recommended that the Board of Supervisors consider appointments to various boards, commissions and committees for 2025.
SUMMARY/DISCUSSION:
At the beginning of each year, the Board of Supervisors considers appointments of the supervisors to various boards, commissions and committees. A majority of these boards, commissions and committees are national, state, regional, and countywide bodies, while others are merely Board subcommittees formed at the direction of the Board of Supervisors and are advisory in nature. The subcommittees are made up of two Board members and the role of each committee is to study specific subject matters and report back and/or make recommendations to the Board of Supervisors. Board subcommittee commitment of County resources, including inquiry/research by support staff and commitment of resources for individual Board member initiatives requires a majority approval from the Board of Supervisors.
The attached 2024 Board of Supervisors' Appointments (Attachment A) provides a brief purpose for some of the various Board committees, identification of current support staff, contact information for each board, commission and committee, as well as the appointment date, term lengths and meeting times. The appointment lists also indicate whether compensation is provided to the appointee and whether a Statement of Economic Interest will be required.
FINANCIAL IMPACT:
The costs associated with meeting attendance for each Board appointment is included in the supervisorial districts and associated departmental support budgets.
