DEPARTMENTAL RECOMMENDATION:

The Department of Agriculture/Weights and Measures recommends the Solano County Board of Supervisors adopt a resolution and receive a presentation, recognizing March 1-7, 2026, as Weights and Measures Week in Solano County.

SUMMARY:

The Department of Agriculture/Weights and Measures promotes consumer protection and fair business practices in the commercial marketplace. County Weights and Measures Inspectors test and certify accuracy of commercial weighing and measuring devices, verify labeling compliance and net quantity of packaged goods, monitor pricing accuracy at retail stores, and regulate petroleum advertising, labeling, and quality. Weights and Measures Inspectors perform over 7,000 inspections annually at 630 businesses throughout the county and work closely with the California Division of Measurement Standards and other counties to ensure uniform enforcement of weights and measures laws and regulations throughout the State.

March 1-7, 2026, is recognized nationally as National Weights and Measures Week, commemorating 227 years since President John Adams signed the first national weights and measures legislation into law on March 2, 1799.

FINANCIAL IMPACT:

The costs associated with preparing the agenda item are nominal and absorbed by the Department’s FY2025/26 Working Budget. The cost associated with the preparation and purchase of the resolution materials are included in the Board’s FY2025/26 Working Budget.

ALTERNATIVES:

The Board could choose not to adopt this resolution, but this is not recommended as this is an opportunity to recognize Weights and Measures as an essential county program.

OTHER AGENCY INVOLVEMENT:

None.
