Supervisor Vasquez requests that the Board receive a presentation from the Solano County Deputy Sheriff's Association regarding the recent clean up around the Jose Cisneros Bridge on Pleasants Valley Road and consider a request from the Association to create and install bridge name signs in honor of fallen Deputy Sheriff Jose Cisneros
SUMMARY/DISCUSSION:
Solano County Deputy Sheriff Jose Cisneros was fatally shot in the line of duty on August 25, 1985. Cisneros was en route to back up another deputy investigating a littering complaint when he saw a vehicle matching the description of a vehicle that had been reported stolen earlier that day. Upon exiting his patrol car, one of two suspects associated with the vehicle pulled a shotgun on Cisneros. During an attempt to get back to his patrol vehicle, 40-year-old Cisneros was fatally shot. Cisneros was just months away from celebrating his 14th year with the Solano County Sheriff's Office when he was slain. He rose to the rank of sergeant in the United States Air Force before joining the Solano County Sheriff's Office and was a dedicated father and husband.
In 1998, the Solano County Deputy Sheriff Association dedicated the bridge at Pleasants Valley and Cherry Glen Roads in honor of Deputy Cisneros with a memorial plaque. However, weeds and debris had overrun the site and caused reduced visibility of the memorial.
