DEPARTMENTAL RECOMMENDATION:

Supervisor Skip Thomson requests that the Board of Supervisors approve the reappointment of Christina Baird to the Solano Partnership Against Violence, representing District 5, for a term to expire on December 31, 2020.

SUMMARY:

On April 28, 2015, the Board approved the appointment of Christina Baird to the Solano Partnership Against Violence (SPAV).  As a sexual assault survivor, Ms. Baird brings a unique perspective to combating and increasing violence awareness- physical, mental, sexual, alike. She has worked with youth, local non-profits and organizations, the faith-based community, and legislators to deter violence perpetrated against youth, and looks forward to continuing her efforts over the next reappointment.

In 1999, SPAV became an advisory board to the Board of Supervisors, and continues to serve in this capacity, today.  The Partnership is tasked with promoting awareness of family violence issues and with helping to develop a comprehensive, systematic approach to ending family violence in Solano County.  Membership consists of 15 voting members from professional and non-professional categories that may include medical, faith-based, social service agency representatives, as well as appointees designated by individual Supervisors to represent their respective Districts.

FINANCIAL IMPACT:

The costs associated with preparing the agenda item are nominal and absorbed by District 5’s FY2018/19 Adopted Budget.

ALTERNATIVES:

The Board may choose not to reappoint Ms. Baird. This is not recommended as Ms. Baird is well qualified for this position and has a desire to serve the County.
