DEPARTMENTAL RECOMMENDATION:

Supervisor Mashburn requests that the Board adopt and present a resolution recognizing the Food Bank of Contra Costa and Solano celebrating 30 years of service to Solano County.

SUMMARY / DISCUSSION:

The Food Bank of Contra Costa and Solano is celebrating 30 years of serving Solano County, providing food, hope, and dignity to residents in need. In 2024, the Food Bank distributed an average of 1,302,312 pounds of food per month, ensuring that families, seniors, and individuals across the County have access to essential nourishment. Solano County values its partnership with the Food Bank, a member of the Feeding America® network, in raising awareness of hunger, educating the public on the critical role of food banks, and encouraging community participation in efforts to address food insecurity.

FINANCIAL IMPACT:

The costs associated with preparing the agenda item are nominal and absorbed by the department’s FY2025/26 Working Budget. The costs associated with preparation and purchase of the resolution materials are included in the Board’s FY2025/26 Working Budget.

ALTERNATIVES:

The Board could choose not to adopt this resolution, however, that is not recommended as this is an opportunity to bring attention to the local community organizations who work tirelessly every day to feed those in need and the incredible impact that volunteering makes in the fight to end hunger in Solano County.
