DEPARTMENTAL RECOMMENDATION:
The Department of Resource Management recommends that the Board of Supervisors:
1) Adopt a resolution (Attachment A) authorizing the Director of Resource Management to submit applications and accept awards for funding opportunities administered by the California Department of Resources Recycling and Recovery (CalRecycle) for up to a five-year period; and
2) Authorize the Director of Resource Management to execute all CalRecycle grant or payment program documents and professional service agreements to implement awards.
SUMMARY:
The California Department of Resources Recycling and Recovery (CalRecycle) offers funding opportunities for local governments to help the State reach its climate change goals. On March 2, 2021, the Board of Supervisors adopted Resolution 2021-30 authorizing the Director of Resource Management to apply and accept awards from CalRecycle grant and payment programs until February 9, 2026. The Department of Resource Management (Department) was awarded more than $1,100,000 over the five-year period which supported projects including environmental education, K-12 outdoor field trips, Coastal Cleanup Day coordination, beverage container recycling outreach, waste tire enforcement, organics diversion from landfill and expansion of recycled-content markets.
