DEPARTMENTAL RECOMMENDATION:
The Sheriff recommends that the Board of Supervisors approve a plaque of appreciation honoring Larry Duffield, Deputy-Sheriff, upon his retirement from the Sheriff's Office with over 18 years of dedicated public service to Solano County.
SUMMARY/DISCUSSION:
Larry Duffield began his career with Solano County's Sheriff's Office as a Deputy-Sheriff (Entry) on March 12, 2007, and was promoted to Deputy-Sheriff on March 9, 2008. Deputy Duffield held numerous position in the Field Operations Division, including Patrol, Court Security, Transportation, Investigations, Northern California Computer Crimes Task Force, Search and Rescue, Posse Coordinator, Crowd Control Team, Reserve Deputy Coordinator, Mobile Field Force, and Technical Team.
Deputy Duffield consistently demonstrated a high level of service throughout his career. On July 7, 2007, he responded to an assault with a deadly weapon involving a tow truck driver who had been shot, which escalated into a six-hour barricade situation and concluded with the suspect's successful arrest. He was nominated for Deputy Sheriff of the Year in 2012. In 2016, the Fairfield Police Chief commended Deputy Duffield's expertise during two operations that led to 119 arrests, the seizure of narcotics, and the confiscation of 11 illegal firearms. In 2018, he received a Certificate of Commendation for his assistance during the Paradise Fire in Butte County. In 2019, CHP-Napa recognized his vital support during its training operations, and Sheriff Essick of Sonoma County acknowledged his contributions during the 77,758-acre Kincaid Fire.
