DEPARTMENTAL RECOMMENDATION:
First 5 Solano recommends that the Board of Supervisors adopt and present a resolution recognizing January 2026 as Positive Parenting Awareness Month in Solano County.
SUMMARY/DISCUSSION:
Positive Parenting Awareness Month, celebrated in January of each year, recognizes the vital role that parents-including grandparents, foster parents, kinship caregivers, and informal caregivers-play in raising happy, healthy children. It highlights how nurturing relationships with family, caring adults, neighbors, and communities contribute positively to a child's social, emotional, and physical development.
The First 5 Solano Children and Families Commission, agencies serving children and families, and community partners across the region providing parenting support are joining to recognize January 2026 as Positive Parenting Awareness Month. Since FY2018/19, First 5 Solano and Solano County Health and Social Services, Mental Health Services Act funding have jointly invested in the Triple P-Positive Parenting Program(r), an evidence-based model offering practical strategies to strengthen caregiver-child relationships. Over the past eight years, approximately 10,314 parents and caregivers in Solano County have participated in Triple P workshops and services. Families consistently report that positive parenting practices strengthen relationships, improve child behavior, and support children in reaching their full potential.
Recognizing Positive Parenting Awareness Month allows Solano County to support and celebrate the dedication, resilience, and commitment of parents and caregivers who prioritize the well-being and development of their children.
