DEPARTMENTAL RECOMMENDATION:

Supervisor Williams recommends that the Board of Supervisors adopt and present a resolution recognizing May 2025 as Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander Heritage Month in Solano County.

SUMMARY/ DISCUSSION:

The month of May is celebrated as Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander (AANHPI) Heritage Month, an important time to celebrate the significant contributions of Asian Americans, Native Hawaiians, and Pacific Islanders to the history of the United States. May was chosen to commemorate the immigration of the first Japanese to the United States on May 7, 1843, and the Chinese immigrant workers' substantial contributions to the completion of the first transcontinental railroad on May 10, 1869. The contributions of Asian Americans, Native Hawaiians, and Pacific Islanders in Solano County has enriched the history of California and the United States and should be recognized.

FINANCIAL IMPACT:

The costs associated with preparing the agenda item are nominal and absorbed by the Board's FY2024/25 Working Budget. The costs associated with the preparation and purchase of the resolution materials are included in the Board's FY2024/25 Working Budget.

ALTERNATIVES:

The Board could choose not to adopt this resolution, but that would not be recommended as this is an excellent opportunity to recognize the importance and contributions of the Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander community to Solano County.

OTHER AGENCY INVOLVEMENT:

There is no other agency involvement.
