DEPARTMENTAL RECOMMENDATION:
The Department of Resource Management recommends that the Board of Supervisors approve a contract with K&K JL Services, Inc for $110,000 to provide landscaping services on Suisun Parkway and Cordelia Road; and authorize the County Administrator to execute the contract and any subsequent amendments, with County Counsel concurrence, up to an aggregate of $74,999.
SUMMARY/DISCUSSION:
Since 2016, the Resource Management, Public Works operations division has contracted for landscaping services on Suisun Parkway and Cordelia Road. These services include maintaining shrubs, trees, and grass along pedestrian walkways, bicycle paths, medians, and planters. Contracting landscaping services keeps the roadways and sidewalks not only safe, but also aesthetically pleasing. This type of work is outside of the normal vegetation management activities performed by the division. With 576 miles of road and 58 miles of drainage channels to maintain, public works crews engage in large scale mowing, weed abatement, and tree and brush maintenance. Contracting for small landscaping jobs in designated areas that require detailed work allows road crews to focus on large scale vegetation management throughout the County.
FINANCIAL IMPACT:
There is no impact to the General Fund. The cost of the $110,000 contract will be funded from the Road Fund and is included in the Department's FY2024/25 Recommended Budget. The costs associated with preparing the agenda item are nominal and absorbed by the Department's FY2023/24 Working Budget.
