Title: Authorize the replacement of General Assistance funds utilizing up to $15,000 in County General Fund, and with concurrence from the County Administrator and Auditor-Controller, which have been swiped from clients' Electronic Benefits Transfer cards for a six-month period from February 2, 2022 through July 31, 2022 or until the California Department of Social Services reports that the current swipe scam has been resolved if earlier than July 31, 2022; and Amend the General Assistance Accounts Receivable Write-Off Policy approved by the Board of Supervisors on December 10, 2019 to include the write-off of General Assistance benefits that have been stolen through electronic theft

DEPARTMENTAL RECOMMENDATION:

The Department of Health and Social Services recommends the Board of Supervisors authorize the replacement of General Assistance funds utilizing up to $15,000 in County General Fund, and with concurrence from the County Administrator and Auditor-Controller, which have been swiped from clients' Electronic Benefits Transfer cards for a six-month period from February 2, 2022 through July 31, 2022 or until the California Department of Social Services reports that the current swipe scam has been resolved if earlier than July 31, 2022; and amend the General Assistance (GA) Accounts Receivable Write-Off Policy approved by the Board of Supervisors on December 10, 2019 to include the administrative write-off of General Assistance benefits that have been stolen through electronic theft.
