DEPARTMENTAL RECOMMENDATION:

The office of County Counsel recommends the Board of Supervisors:

Approve a Second Amendment to the agreement with Renne Public Law Group, LLP for $60,002 for a new maximum contract amount of $210,000 for the current period through June 23, 2027, for outside legal services; and

Authorize the County Administrator or designee to execute the amendment and any subsequent amendments, with County Counsel concurrence, up to a maximum of $74,999 annually.

SUMMARY/DISCUSSION:

In April 2026, the County entered into an agreement with Renne Public Law Group, LLP to provide outside legal services in connection with litigation involving John Sweeney, Verizon Wireless, and the County. The agreement was initially executed under the County Administrator’s delegated authority with a maximum contract amount of $74,999. The agreement was subsequently amended under the County Administrator’s delegated authority to extend the term through June 23, 2027 and increase the maximum contract amount to $149,998.

The case is ongoing and additional legal services are necessary for continued representation of the County. The proposed Second Amendment would increase the contract amount by $60,002, for a new maximum amount of $210,000. Because the increased contract amount exceeds the County Administrator’s delegated contracting authority, Board approval of the Second Amendment is required. All other terms and conditions of the agreement remain unchanged.
