DEPARTMENTAL RECOMMENDATION:
The Department of Resource Management recommends that the Board of Supervisors authorize the Director of Resource Management to advertise for construction bids for Rubberized Chip Seal Project 2013, Slurry Seal Project 2013, Surface Transportation Program (STP) Overlay Project 2013, and the Vaca Valley Road Curve Improvement Project, and to award and execute contracts with the lowest responsible bidders.
SUMMARY/DISCUSSION:
The Department of Resource Management is preparing plans and specifications for four public works projects scheduled to go out to bid in the next several months for construction in 2013 (Attachment A - Map). The projects are all included in the Board approved Public Works Capital Improvement Plan for 2013. Approval of this item will permit these projects to proceed with construction this year. Early advertisement of these projects for bid will likely result in lower bid prices rather than waiting for the projects to be advertised later in the year.
Permission is requested to advertise, award, and execute contracts for the following projects:
1. Rubberized Chip Seal Project 2013: A special rubber-modified chip seal will be placed by contract on various roads. Total estimated contract cost of $625,000, with funding of $113,000 from a CalRecycle Grant, $175,000 from Montezuma Hills wind turbine road damage settlement monies, and $337,000 from the Road Fund.
