DEPARTMENTAL RECOMMENDATION:

The Department of Resource Management recommends that the Board of Supervisors adopt a resolution to waive the day use parking fee (estimated total of approximately $600) at Lynch Canyon Open Space on May 6, 2017 in support of the 10th Anniversary of the opening of Lynch Canyon Open Space and the 9th Annual Kite Festival.

SUMMARY:

On Saturday, May 6, 2017 Solano Land Trust will be celebrating the 10th Anniversary of opening Lynch Canyon Open Space to hikers, bikers, and equestrians of all ages and skill levels. The celebration event is expected to see approximately 300 visitors taking part in kite flying, guided hikes, and other related planned activities for the day. The activities are offered for participation by all age groups with many being developed with the goal of engaging children and families with outdoor activities they may not otherwise have regular access to the outdoors.

FINANCIAL IMPACT:

The requested waiver for this celebration, estimated at $600 in forfeited revenue, is being recommended as the County's contribution in support of the event. Overall fee revenues for Lynch Canyon are tracking a little higher than forecasted and this waiver will not have any impact on the County's General Fund or the County Parks budget.

DISCUSSION:

Support of this event serves by waiving parking fees recognizes the importance of the partnership between Solano County and the Solano Land Trust, together providing access to over 1,000 acres and 9 miles of trails for 18,400 hikers, bikers, and equestrians in the ten years since Lynch Canyon Open Space began operating as a Solano County Park.
