DEPARTMENTAL RECOMMENDATION:

 

The District Attorney recommends that the Board of Supervisors adopt and present a resolution and plaque of appreciation honoring Jackson F. Harris, Deputy District Attorney, upon his retirement from the District Attorney's Office with over 34 years of dedicated service to Solano County.

 

SUMMARY/DISCUSSION:

 

Jackson F. Harris graduated from Clayton Valley High School and was a police officer for Concord Police Department from 1972 to 1982.  He obtained his undergraduate degree in Criminal Justice from Sacramento State University in 1979 and a law degree from McGeorge School of Law, Sacramento, CA, in 1982.

 

He joined the Solano County District Attorney’s office on January 3, 1983, where he started his legal career as a Deputy District Attorney I under District Attorney Michael E. Nail.  In 1991, he was promoted to a Deputy District Attorney V under Michael E. Nail. During his 34-year career he has served under four District Attorneys; Michael E. Nail 1986-1993, David W. Paulson 1993-2010, Donald A. du Bain 2011-2014 and Krishna A. Abrams 2014-present. 

 

Jackson F. Harris has held assignments in the Misdemeanor Unit, Felony Trial Team, Juvenile Unit, Family Support Division, Career Criminal Unit, Criminal Charging Deputy (Felonies and Misdemeanors), SOLNET/Cal-MMET/Drug Task Force and was the senior attorney in the Prison Prosecution Unit for the last 26 years

 

Jackson F. Harris’ dedication to the District Attorney's Office has earned the respect and admiration of his colleagues, the peace officers of Solano County, and law enforcement professionals throughout the State of California.

 

Jackson F. Harris’ retirement was effective April 7, 2017, after 34 years of dedicated service to the District Attorney’s Office and the residents of Solano County.

 

FINANCIAL IMPACT:

 

The cost of providing the plaque is included in the department budget and has no additional impact to the General Fund.

 

ALTERNATIVE:

 

The Board may choose not to present the resolution and plaque honoring Mr. Harris. This is not recommended because it is an opportunity to recognize Mr. Harris’ dedication to Solano County residents. 

 

OTHER AGENCY INVOLVEMENT:

 

None.
