DEPARTMENTAL RECOMMENDATION:
Supervisor Hannigan request that the Board of Supervisors adopt a resolution approving the application to the California Arts Council, by the Solano County Arts Council, requesting a FY2017/2018 State-Local Partnership Program grant for promoting art in Solano County; and Authorize the Solano County Arts Council to execute the grant if awarded.
SUMMARY/DISCUSSION:
The California Arts Council and the California Legislature established a State-Local Partnership Program in 1977 designed to encourage local cultural planning and decision-making and to reach previously under-served constituents.
The Solano Arts Council (SCAC) is an all-volunteer organization whose mission is to bring pride and artistic experiences directly to Solano County through programs and resources that enable people to create, present, produce, teach, and learn.
Some of SCAC's projects include:
Funding and sponsoring numerous community art centers and events
Funding sponsored Cultural Centers
Friday night art walks in downtown Vallejo
County Poetry Awards
Poetry Out Loud contest
Community Mural projects
Veteran Art projects and workshops
