DEPARTMENTAL RECOMMENDATION:

Chair Vasquez requests that the Board adopt and present a resolution recognizing June 25 - July 1, 2017 as Wildfire Awareness Week in Solano County.

SUMMARY:

Wildfires are intermittent and naturally occurring events which many of our native species rely on for survival. Yet, these occurrences often conflict with the people’s use of the land. Careless and sometimes malicious acts by humans cause many fires that otherwise would not have occurred naturally and record rainfall this past winter have elevated the threat of wildfire due to the increased fuel load. Solano County residents must be made aware of the danger wildfire poses and prepare accordingly.

More information is available at <http://www.readyforwildfire.org/> on preventing wildfires.

FINANCIAL IMPACT:

There is no fiscal impact associated with this resolution.

ALTERNATIVES:

The Board could choose not to adopt this resolution. This is not recommended because this is an opportunity to raise public awareness of wildfire prevention and preparedness in Solano County.
