DEPARTMENTAL RECOMMENDATION:

The Department of Information Technology recommends the Board of Supervisors adopt a resolution and plaque of appreciation honoring Ross A. Cardno, upon his retirement from the Solano County Department of Information Technology, with over 29 years of dedicated public service to Solano County.

SUMMARY/DISCUSSION:

Ross A. Cardno started his career in Solano County as a Communications Technician II with the Department of General Services on February 22, 1988. He was promoted to Communication Technician, Senior on June 24, 2001 and promoted to Communications Supervisor on April 22, 2007.

Over the course of almost three decades, Ross has worked to rebuild and expand the County's public safety communications systems including work to extend Bay Area-wide regional emergency communications capabilities into Solano County. Ross has been the County's radio communications expert, responsible for designing and building the County's simulcast radio over internet protocol land mobile radio system giving emergency responders interoperable communications capabilities over 800MHz, 700MHz, and the County's VHF frequencies. He has been responsible for implementation of the County-wide microwave backbone and the construction of radio sites and towers in Vallejo, Cement Hill, Redtop, Rio Vista, Benicia, Dixon, Fairfield, Putah Creek, and on Mount Vaca, in addition to repeater sites at Jail facilities, Juvenile Hall, and the Courts.
