DEPARTMENTAL RECOMMENDATION:

Supervisors Hannigan requests that the Board adopt a resolution recognizing the Florence Douglas Center on their 40th Anniversary serving Seniors in Solano County

SUMMARY:

The Florence Douglas Center is located at 333 Amador Street in Vallejo and serves over 3,000 citizens ages 50 and older every month. Over the past 40 years the Florence Douglas Center has created an environment that enables participants to enjoy a positive place to recharge, relax and reconnect.

FINANCIAL IMPACT:

There is no fiscal impact associated with this resolution.

DISCUSSION:

Through a $30,000 “Walking for Health” grant with Sutter Health, Supervisor Hannigan has partnered with the Florence Douglas Senior Center in Vallejo to provide shoes for seniors.  To date, this program has given away over 1,000 pairs of walking shoes and continues to offer opportunities to encourage walking and healthy lifestyles.

ALTERNATIVES:

The Board could choose not to adopt this resolution.  This is not recommended because this is an opportunity to recognize the Florence Douglas Center on their 40th Anniversary.

OTHER AGENCY INVOLVEMENT:

This resolution was prepared in conjunction with the Florence Douglas Center

CAO RECOMMENDATION:
