DEPARTMENTAL RECOMMENDATION:

The Department of Resource Management recommends that the Board of Supervisors approve a plaque of appreciation honoring Eugene M. Ledo, Traffic Maintenance Supervisor, upon his retirement from the Department of Resource Management with over 14 years of dedicated public service to Solano County and a total of over 32 years of dedicated public service in California counties.

SUMMARY/DISCUSSION:

Eugene Ledo began his career in Public Works in January 1985 with the County of Monterey as a Traffic Maintenance Helper and during his 18 years with that county rose through the ranks to become a Senior Traffic Maintenance Worker.  At the County of Monterey, Eugene’s duties included various traffic maintenance work, including guardrail repair, sign design and placement determinations, complex equipment operations, road striping, and leadership of crews performing the work.  Because of his expertise, Solano County Public Works Operations Division added him to the Traffic Maintenance Crew as a Traffic Maintenance Supervisor in May of 2003. During his 14 plus years of distinguished service with Solano County, Eugene worked at the Fairfield Corporation Yard supervising five field staff on the Traffic Maintenance Crew and overseeing traffic maintenance on over five hundred and seventy-seven miles of roadway including striping and signage. Eugene was instrumental in updating road signs and guardrails to the latest quality materials to ensure safety of the public and Public Works crews. Eugene’s knowledge, diligence, thoroughness and expertise in various traffic-related laws, activities, bridge systems and emergency response has proven him to be a valuable asset to the County and its residents and earned him the respect of management, peers and the public.

Eugene Ledo retired on December 2, 2017 as a Traffic Maintenance Supervisor with the Department of Resource Management. Eugene’s retirement brings to a close an exemplary career of active service to the residents and visitors of Solano County.

Eugene will be greatly missed for his sense of humor, kindness, energy, almonds and graciousness which has enriched the lives of those fortunate enough to know him in his time here with the County of Solano. His high level of commitment to his job and the Solano community was evident throughout his career with the County.

Eugene presently lives in the Esparto area and upon his retirement plans on fishing and spending quality time with his wife, children, grandchildren, family and friends.
