DEPARTMENTAL RECOMMENDATION:

The Sheriff recommends that the Board of Supervisors adopt and present a resolution and plaque of appreciation honoring Correctional Officer Jeffrey Smith upon his retirement from the Sheriff's Office with over 20 years of dedicated public service to Solano County.

SUMMARY/DISCUSSION:

Jeffrey Smith began his career with Solano County as a Duplicating Equipment Operator for General Services - Central Services Reproduction on August 24, 1998. He operated the Ardick 9805 Offset Press, OCE 3100, and Riso 3770 Duplicator Machines.

Officer Smith started his career with Solano County Sheriff's Office as a Correctional Officer Entry on December 9, 2001.

Officer Smith was promoted to journey-level Correctional Officer on December 11, 2002.

During his career, Officer Smith worked numerous positions within the Custody Division including, but not limited to, Max A Officer, Transfer Officer, IW Medical Unit Officer, Control, Rover and EFGH Mod Officer.

Officer Smith received a Commendation in September of 2005 for his assistance in the Sheriff's Gang Intelligence Unit providing the location of weapons and the identity of a gang member in possession of those weapons. The information provided likely prevented a homicide, and he was awarded the Distinguished Service Medal in recognition for sustaining a human life in January of 2014.

Officer Smith was a highly respected and valued member of the Sheriff's Office and will be greatly missed by his friends and coworkers.
