DEPARTMENTAL RECOMMENDATION:
The Department of Health and Social Services (H&SS) recommends that the Board approve a plaque of appreciation honoring Janet Jay Charles, Mental Health Clinician, Licensed, upon her retirement from the Behavioral Health Division with over 18 years of dedicated public service to Solano County.
SUMMARY/ DISCUSSION:
Janet Jay Charles began her career with Solano County on October 16, 2000, as a Mental Health Clinician, Registered, at the Cornerstone children’s day treatment program in Vallejo. In 2006, Ms. Charles transferred to the children’s mental health program in Fairfield. In 2011, Ms. Charles then transferred to Substance Abuse Services where she worked on the Behavioral Health Assessment Team until she transferred to the California Work Opportunities and Responsibility to Kids (CalWORKs) Behavioral Health team in 2014. Ms. Charles was promoted to Mental Health Clinician, Licensed, in April 2008.
Ms. Charles is a professional and a valued team member in Substance Abuse Services. She quickly became well-versed in substance abuse disorders and applied her knowledge to assisting clients. Ms. Charles provided family and couples therapy with clients when appropriate, a new dimension of service to Substance Abuse Services. Recognizing that many of the unit’s clients are suffering from a host of different traumas, Ms. Charles advocated for training in Eye Movement Desensitization Reprogramming, an evidence-based, time limited, effective intervention which led to over a dozen clinicians currently trained on that protocol, greatly benefitting clients.
FINANCIAL IMPACT:
The costs associated with preparing the agenda item are nominal and absorbed by the Department’s FY2018/19 Adopted Budget. The cost associated with the purchase of the plaque is included in the Board’s FY2018/19 Adopted Budget.
ALTERNATIVES:
The Board may choose not to approve this plaque of appreciation. This is not recommended because this is an opportunity to recognize Janet Jay Charles for her dedication and service to Solano County.
