DEPARTMENTAL RECOMMENDATION:
Chairwoman Erin Hannigan recommends that the Board of Supervisors adopt and present a resolution recognizing June 2019 as Philippine Cultural Month in Solano County.
SUMMARY:
June 12, 2019 marks the 121st anniversary of Philippine Independence from Spain - a time to commemorate the Philippines’ Independence.
The Philippine Culture Committee will celebrate its 33rd anniversary sponsoring the annual “Pista Sa Nayon” event on June 1, 2019.
DISCUSSION:
As part of a month-long cultural activities, the annual “Pista Sa Nayon” event draws a large crowd to celebrate and experience Philippine culture and traditions with a parade, cultural exhibits, Filipino Martial Arts tournament, food and entertainment for all ages.
FINANCIAL IMPACT:
The costs associated with preparing the agenda item are nominal and absorbed by the department’s FY2018/19 Adopted Budget.
ALTERNATIVES:
The Board could choose not to adopt the resolution, however this is not recommended because this is an opportunity to recognize Philippine Cultural Month in Solano County.
