DEPARTMENTAL RECOMMENDATION:
It is recommended that the Board receive a presentation from the Department of Resource Management on the selection of Robert Liu for "Employee of the Month" for June 2019, making him eligible to use the parking space designated for this program.
SUMMARY/DISCUSSION:
On September 13, 2005, the Board of Supervisors established the County Government Center "Employee of the Month” parking program for County employees. Each month a County department is designated to select one of its employees as "Employee of the Month." The Department of Resource Management has been designated to select an employee for June 2019. The Department has selected Robert “Bob” Liu as the deserving employee.
Bob began working with the Department of Resource Management as a Senior Civil Engineer on January 28, 2008. In his eleven years of service to the County, Bob has been an essential member of the Engineering Division as the County’s lead Resident Engineer, administering over 50 of the Department’s capital improvement construction projects on the County’s roads and bridges. Bob’s knowledge in construction engineering, and diligence toward completing projects in accordance with the plans and specifications, has enabled the County to produce award winning project work. Some examples of Bob’s milestone projects include the Vacaville-Dixon Bike Route, Gibson Canyon Road Improvements, Grizzly Island Road Bridge, Suisun Valley Road Bridge, and a variety of Highway Safety Improvement (shoulder widening) projects.
The Department awards Bob special recognition for his commitment and service in delivery of the Winters Bridge project. This large bridge project, starting construction in 2013, has required extraordinary commitments by staff, with Bob providing expert stewardship, sound engineering judgment, and a significant commitment in work hours. Bob’s focus on construction details and commitment to quality will result in the bridge standing for well over 100 years.
Bob has demonstrated high engineering professionalism, with a focused commitment to quality, and is deserving of the "Employee of the Month" recognition.
FINANCIAL IMPACT:
The costs associated with preparing the agenda item are nominal and absorbed by the Department’s FY2018/19 Adopted Budget.
ALTERNATIVES:
The Board could elect to name someone else as the “Employee of the Month”; however, this alternative is not recommended as Robert Liu is deserving of the Board's "Employee of the Month” parking program.
