DEPARTMENTAL RECOMMENDATION:

Supervisor Spering requests that the Board of Supervisors adopt and present a resolution and plague of appreciation recognizing Sabine Goerke-Shrode, District 3 Board of Supervisors Aide, for her nearly 15 years of distinguished service to Solano County and its residents.

SUMMARY/DISCUSSION:

Sabine Goerke-Shrode was hired on September 3, 2004 by then District 3 Board of Supervisor Duane Kromm to assist and represent him in serving the constituents of Solano County.  When Supervisor Jim Spering was elected in 2006, he recognized the value of her expertise and invited Sabine to continue in her role.

Over the years, Ms. Goerke-Shrode has been an indispensable member of the District 3 team. Handling complicated constituent issues with compassion, intelligence and resourcefulness, on issues ranging from Mental Health, to agriculture, to code enforcement; she used her knowledge of the county representing the supervisor at countless recognition and special events during the work day, on weekends and evenings; and involving projects, meetings and events that span all 18 County departments. She served eight years on the Mental Health Board providing valuable insight and leadership.

Ms. Goerke-Shrode was the behind the scenes person doing research in support of Supervisor Spering’s many initiatives, including senior related issues, homelessness, transportation and domestic violence.  She was the unofficial resident historian for Solano County, called upon many times over the years to share her knowledge and expertise on grant submittals and County exhibits.  She was a committee member and contributor to the development of the Family Justice Center White Paper, which helped justify and launch the program. She was a founding member of the Senior Coalition, the annual Women’s History Month Luncheon event and the Solano Women’s and Girls’ Commission.  Ms. Goerke-Shrode’s contributions to the community and the County of Solano are many and impactful during her nearly 15 years.  She will be greatly missed.
