DEPARTMENTAL RECOMMENDATION:
Supervisor Skip Thomson requests that the Board approve the appointment of Valerie Williams to the Solano County Fair Board of Directors, representing District 5, for a 4-year term to expire August 1, 2023.
SUMMARY/DISCUSSION:
Valerie Williams is a lifelong Solano County resident. She was a Solano County 4-H member for 8 years and has been employed as the Solano County 4-H Program Representative for 25 years. Throughout her 4-H membership she exhibited livestock and still life at the Dixon May Fair, Solano County Fair & California State Fair. Fair participation offers a unique setting for youth to share their project work, resulting in development of essential life skills. Valerie has experienced fair participation as a youth, parent, volunteer, adult exhibitor and staff member. She is open to change and will bring fresh ideas to the Board. Valerie hopes that her Hispanic/Latino background and culture will add to the diversity of the Board. She has extensive experience in youth development, volunteer management, community outreach, community development, meeting facilitation & public speaking. Valerie hopes to draw on those skills and strengths to move the Board toward their goals & objectives.
FINANCIAL IMPACT:
The costs associated with preparing the agenda item are nominal and absorbed by the department's FY2018/19 Adopted Budget.
ALTERNATIVES:
The Board could choose not to approve the appointment of Valerie Williams to the Solano County Fair Board of Directors. However, this is not recommended as the Solano County Fair Association has stated its need for more Directors/Volunteers.
