DEPARTMENTAL RECOMMENDATION:

Supervisor Jim Spering requests that the Board approve the reappointment of John W. (Bill) Seiden to the Airport Land Use Commission, representing District 3, for a term to expire on May 6, 2024.

SUMMARY/DISCUSSION:

Bill Seiden has served as the District 3 appointee to the Airport Land Use Commission since September 2017 and is interested in continuing to serve on it. He is well respected for the expertise and wisdom he brings to the commission. He has been a pilot for most of his life, starting his aviation career as a pilot in the US Army in the late 1960’s; and after the military, serving 30 years as an American Airlines pilot and captain. His many years of aviation expertise in agriculture, flight training, military and commercial airline operations make him extremely qualified to serve on this commission.

Please note this is an “at large” position and candidates are not required to live within the district.

FINANCIAL IMPACT:

The costs associated with preparing the agenda item are nominal and absorbed by the department’s FY2019/20 Adopted Budget.

ALTERNATIVES:

The Board can choose not to reappoint Bill Seiden to the Airport Land Use Commission, however, this is not recommended, as he is well qualified for the position; is a seasoned member of the Commission, and still has a desire to serve in this capacity.
